Website Copywriting for Architects & Interior Designers: What You Can Expect From Process

Alignment calls are one of my favorite parts of the process. As a prospect, you and I are just getting to know one another and it’s the perfect opportunity to see whether or not we’ll be a good fit.

As a small business owner who grew up in an entrepreneurial family, I am always excited to hear the story of how a business came to be (in fact, one of my favorite podcasts is NPR’s How I Built This with Guy Raz).

My clients genuinely care about their clients and take a personal approach to their work. In order to portray the best version of you and your firm to prospective clients and to make your work shine, it’s essential that we forge a connection early on.

In addition to learning about you and your design firm, I also encourage you to ask me questions. I’m an open book and I love to share, which is funny because the number one question I get asked isn’t about me, it’s about my process — what does it look like and what can you expect from the experience?

With so many prospective clients asking about my process, I thought it would be helpful to share the following overview of what it looks like to write your website copy from scratch:

  • Half-hour alignment call where we discuss your goals and your needs including your project start date and approximate timeline

  • I draft and submit a proposal

  • You secure a spot in my schedule by placing a 50% deposit

  • I send you a detailed, custom questionnaire for you to complete and submit via Google Docs

  • We have a two-hour meeting (via phone or video conference) to review your answers to the questionnaire, outline the copy, and establish tone and voice

  • Depending on the scope of work, it generally takes 2-6 weeks for me to write your copy and submit the first draft for your review

  • You have a 72-hour reflection period to make suggestions and request edits via Google Docs

  • Optional one-hour call to review and live-workshop the first draft

  • Edits are made and the second draft is submitted to you for review

  • You have another 72-hour reflection period to request final edits via Google Docs

  • Final edits are made and I submit the copy to you for publication on your website

  • Half-hour project close-out call for final questions and feedback

The process is efficient but high-touch. You work directly with me until you are confident in the copy and excited to implement it on your website — and anywhere else you see fit.
